The Search Committee received their charge from Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean, Marschall Runge, M.D., Ph.D., to recommend an unranked list of 3 - 5 exceptional, qualified and experienced candidates at the end of their process.

Matthew BazzaniMr. Bazzani is the Chief Department Administrator for the Department of Family Medicine and Associate Chief Operating Officer for Ambulatory Care.  Matt joined Michigan Medicine in 2007 and was formerly the CDA for the departments of Dermatology and Biological Chemistry.  His work history includes leadership positions at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and as a consultant in Arthur Andersen’s Higher Education and Healthcare practices. Matt holds a BS in management from Indiana University and an MHSA from Rush University.

Phyllis BlackmanMs. Blackman has been the Administrative Director of the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion since 2016. She is a highly respected administrator and has been at Michigan Medicine for over two decades, primarily in the Section of Pediatric Surgery and Trauma. In her current role, Phyllis oversees the institution’s efforts to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace, enhance the patient experience through heightened cultural awareness, and cultivate a pipeline of our future professionals in health care and medicine. She has oversight of the research, education and training, and mentoring efforts that the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion provide for the organization. Additionally, Phyllis has broad institutional knowledge and experience, currently serving on the Leadership Development Advisory Group, Advancing Women and Inclusive Leadership Sub-Committee, and the Leadership Day Planning Committee. In 2012, she was honored as the Medical School Administrator of the Year.  Phyllis is active in many professional health care organizations and has worked on hurricane relief efforts, been an avid supporter of the fight against breast cancer, and is active in her church and community to help set positive examples for our youth.

Marge CalarcoDr. Calarco is the Chief Nurse Executive of University of Michigan Health System and Adjunct Professor, University of Michigan School of Nursing. She has more than 30 years of progressively responsible experience in psychiatric and administrative nursing roles in a variety of community and academic settings. She is an accomplished researcher in the field of depressive disorder and more recently in administrative and organizational change with her most recent funding in the areas of nursing environments, nurse retention and professional development. Dr. Calarco has presented on a wide array of topics nationally and internationally, and has published widely in the areas of clinical depression and in leadership and organizational change. Dr. Calarco lectures on a wide variety of topics to multidisciplinary audiences which include leading complex organizations, mission and vision development and topics on positive organizational scholarship and its impact in nursing work environments. She belongs to many professional and service organizations and is the recipient of numerous notable awards and honors, including the Sigma Theta Tau International Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award.

Kevin C. Chung, MD, MS

Kevin ChungDr. Chung is the Charles B. G. De Nancrede (Chair of the Department of Surgery at University of Michigan, 1847-1921) Professor of Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. He serves as the Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Michigan Medical School in charge of Tenure and Promotion, and is the Associate Director for Global REACH, the global health program of the Medical School. Dr. Chung is Chief of Hand Surgery for Michigan Medicine and Director of the Multidisciplinary Hand Center. He was a Director for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He has served as the Treasurer/Secretary for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and was the past Vice-President for Research for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Past President of the Plastic Surgery Foundation. He was the Research Director, a Council member and a Trustee for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and its Foundation. He serves as a member of the Plastic Surgery Residency Review Committee. He was past Chairman of the AO North America Hand Education Committee in charge of hand surgery educational programs for the US and Canada and was the first recipient of the Weiland Medal from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand to honor a hand surgeon whose research work advanced the specialty. He was the 2011 Researcher of the Year for the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. In 2008, Dr. Chung received the Dean's award from the University of Michigan Medical School for Clinical and Health Services Research that is bestowed on one faculty member for outstanding research accomplishments. In 2016, Dr. Chung again received the Dean’s award for Outstanding Clinician Award recognizing the exemplary performance of a practicing clinician. Dr. Chung is the past Deputy Editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery (American) and current Associate Editor, the Editor for Hand Clinics and Associate Editor for Journal of Hand Surgery (European). He is the Outcomes Section Editor for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Sherry Cogswell, CPA, CIA

Sherry CogswellMs. Cogswell is the Chief Department Administrator for two basic science departments in the Medical School; the Departments of Human Genetics and Biological Chemistry. She is a current member of the Finance Talent and Training Advisory Group and the Finance Advisory Committee. Sherry joined the University of Michigan in 2007 as part of University Audits, managing the hospital and Medical School internal audits until 2016 when she assumed her current position. She has more than 30 years in financial management with the last 15 devoted to academic medicine and hospital administration. Sherry received her accounting degree from Eastern Michigan University, and worked in public accounting for PWC and Deloitte and is a registered CPA in the state of Michigan.

Loree CollettLoree Collett RN, BSN, MSBA is the Associate Hospital Director for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. In this role, she is the lead for all children’s and women’s services and provides administrative and operational leadership consistent with the strategic plans for Michigan Medicine and children’s and women’s services. Loree has devoted her career to improving care and enhancing the patient experience for children and women. Loree has 25 years of progressive leadership experience. She began her career at the University of Michigan Health System in 1987 as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Her leadership roles included management of the Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Pediatric Operating Rooms and Interim Director of Nursing for Pediatric, Perinatal and Psychiatric Services. In 2005 she joined the Children’s and Women’s Replacement Hospital Project leading the design, operational and activation plans for the 1.1M square foot, $754M facility, opening on time and under budget on December 4, 2011. Loree received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Toledo and her Masters of Science in Business from Madonna University. Loree is currently a member of the Kappa Gamma Kappa and Delta Mu Business Honor Society. She also serves on the board of the Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor.

Tony DentonMr. Denton is the Senior Vice President and COO for the University of Michigan Health System.  He joined the University of Michigan in 1981 as an administrative fellow in Academic Health Center Administration. His career evolved, including Human Resources with an emphasis on labor relations, compensation and workforce planning strategies. Tony participated on the start-up team for MCare HMO during the mid-1980s, serving as manager of Corporate Affairs and Member Services. Tony transitioned to Hospital Administration in the early 1990s. Tony was appointed as Chief Operating Officer in 2004 for the Hospitals and Health Centers. From June 2014 through December 2015, Tony served as Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Effective January 1, 2016, Tony is now Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the Health System. Tony has served and continues as an active member on multiple senior leadership committees in the Health System. Tony has been and remains active on state and national boards, including a five-year term as Commissioner on the Board of the Joint Commission. Tony is currently a Trustee on the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Board. Tony has served on several community boards and councils, including the local Red Cross Board of Directors, and is presently a Co-Chair of the University of Michigan's United Way Campaign (2014-16) and co-lead for Washtenaw County’s United Way Campaign. Tony has served as corporate chair for the area American Heart Association heart walks, and has been a county area chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Tony is also an advocate for "The Education Project for Homeless Youth" and Food Gatherers. Tony obtained his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in 1979. He obtained his master's degree in Health Services Administration from U of M Health in 1981, followed by a law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1987.

Dee FennerDr. Fenner is the Chief Clinical Officer for University Hospital and the Frankel Cardiovascular Center.  As the Director of Gynecology, the Director of Surgical Services and a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan, Dr. Fenner has dedicated her career to the understanding and treatment advancements of pelvic floor disorders. She was board certified in Gynecology in 1991 and recertified in 2003 by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  She received her medical degree in 1985 from the University of Missouri - Columbia, completed her residency at the University of Michigan in 1989, and completed her specialty training in urogynecology at the Mayo Clinic Fellowship Program in 1992.

Keith GranMr. Gran is the Chief Patient Experience Officer for Michigan Medicine. Keith joined the University of Michigan Health System in 2015. With more than 20 years of experience in academic health care, he will help lead value within the organization through process, efficiency, and design to deliver high quality service and care at appropriate cost. Prior to joining UMHS, Keith held roles of Chief Operating Officer for the University of Miami Medical Group; Chief Executive Officer of the University of Southern California’s Care Medical Group; Chief Executive Officer, University Physicians, University of Mississippi Medical Center; as well as Chief Operating Officer for the Medical Group and Chief Revenue Cycle Officer for the Health System at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His expertise in clinical department management, large academic physician group management, revenue cycle operations, ambulatory operations, contracting systems and many other aspects of an integrated healthcare delivery system will allow him to increase value to patients, physicians, and the research and academic community. Keith has worked with various consulting firms on process improvement initiatives such as revenue cycle, throughput, patient experience, revenue enhancements and cost efficiencies. Keith received his accounting degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and his MBA from the University of North Texas and is a licensed CPA in the state of Texas.

Musty HabhabMs. Habhab is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Department of Internal Medicine a t the University of Michigan Health System.  In this role, she has administrative responsibility for all medical school, ambulatory care and hospital operations of the Department, including finances, faculty and staff human resources, grants and facilities.  After earning her degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and passing the CPA exam, Musty moved to Michigan where she gained valuable experience working in the health system’s Hospital Finance Department.  She has over 16 years of experience with the Department of Internal Medicine, serving initially as the Director of Finance and then as the Associate Administrator.  She is actively involved in her national organization, the Alliance for Academic Medicine, where she has a seat on the council and is president of Administrators in Internal Medicine.

Tim WoodMr. Wood serves as Senior Director, Human Resources for the University of Michigan, with a portfolio that includes policy development, employee relations, labor strategy, compensation and classification frameworks, and employment systems. He leads a staff of 30, oversees consulting services and guides project and change management efforts for University-wide initiatives. With over 25 years of experience gained in health care and higher education environments, he is a trusted advisor to leaders and the HR community. Mr. Wood is Past-President of Michigan CUPA-HR, a professional organization for HR practitioners in higher education, and sponsor of two enterprise projects selected by the national CUPA-HR organization for receipt of the SunGard Innovation award. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the HR Certification Institute, holds the Senior Certified Professional designation from the Society for Human Resources Management, and is currently pursuing certification as an executive coach.
